Denise P. Cambs, Esq. is a 1982 graduate of Fordham University and a 1985 graduate of Pace University School of Law. Denise has practiced in the areas of estate, tax and "disability" planning, as well as trust and estate administration for her entire 15 year legal career.

A fellow in in the American College of Trusts & Estates Counsel (ACTEC), Denise is a co-author of the recently published legal treatise entitled "Elder Law and Guardianship in New York State" (West Publishing, 1997), for which she contributed chapters on "Supplemental Needs Trust Drafting and Administration", as well as "Long-Term Care Insurance" and "Estate Planning for the Legal Guardian". Denise also authored a chapter entitled, "Fundamentals of Will Drafting" for the New York State Bar Association's recently published legal treatise entitled "Estate Planning and Will Drafting" (NYSBA, 1998).

An active member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association's Trust and Estates sections, Denise currently chairs that section's Estate Planning Committee. From 1996-1999, she served as Chair of the Elder Law Section's Committee on Planning for Persons Under Disability, the focus for which was Supplemental Needs Trust planning for disabled individuals. As a NYSBA Executive Committee member, Denise participates in legislative initiatives which impact tax and estate planning, trust and estate administration and Supplemental Needs Trust planning in New York State. She is able to react and respond on her clients' behalf as new legislation is enacted in these areas.

Denise is a frequent author and lecturer for such professional organizations as the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Bankers' Association (Trust Administration School), the New York State Society of Certified Public Accounts, and the Estate Planning Council of Central New York. Her course materials and topics for discussion have included:

  • Supplemental Needs Trust Planning for the Disabled Client; Tax and Charitable Planning, including the use of lifetime charitable remainder trusts
  • The Role of Long-Term Care Insurance in the Estate Plan
  • Estate Planning and Will Drafting - Creative Use of Trusts in the Estate Plan
  • Settlement of the Estate - Preparation and Review of the Executor's Final Account.

Denise frequently contributes estate planning related articles to the Syracuse community newspapers, the Syracuse Business Journal, the New York State Bar Association and other professional publications. She has appeared as a guest panelist on many editions of WCNY's "Financial Fitness" program, as well as WTVH's "Your Money" segment to discuss topics related to estate, tax and disability planning.
